What a month! Because of time, I didn’t break this month down into weeks like I normally do, but here is the overview of Pregnancy: Month 6. If you’ve missed our Pregnancy Announcement, the First Trimester Overview, Pregnancy: Month 4, or Pregnancy: Month 5 make sure to read them first!
With the holidays, this month has been pretty crazy! The first few weeks I would get heartburn every night and I finally started to feel him move! Now I feel him move around a lot and it moves my whole stomach when he kicks. We had another doctors appointment and thankfully everything was normal. We also had another ultrasound to see some of his organs (like his heart) that they couldn’t see before.
Unfortunately my pain has increased quite a bit. I’m not getting heartburn every night anymore but my feet are swelling faster and my back and legs seem to always hurt, normally at different times. Almost every night I will tense my calves and almost get charlie horses. Thankfully flexing my foot really fast has helped to not get them fully, but they still hurt! Also, getting to sleep has been somewhat of a chore because my legs will hurt and get very restless at night. I toss and turn just like the baby for about an hour or two and then finally get to sleep. Emilio tries to massage whatever is hurting…sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn’t. I have found that taking 2 Tylenol helps put me to sleep when it’s really bad. I try not to take it every night but it has seemed to help when I need it. The midwife also said that I can take Unisom if I need it. We bought some just in case but I haven’t taken any yet.
I think Nala is already becoming very attached to our little baby boy. For the past several weeks she will lay in front of me if she can when she used to always lay in between us or behind my legs. She also doesn’t try to play with me as much as she used to. If I instigate playing, she will play but she generally is more calm around me now.
We also got some presents for the baby for Christmas! The first thing that we got was a basket from a Secret Santa. A young man in our ward at church delivered it to us. It had some mixed nuts, pampers, a blanket, and a rattle in it…as well as some money to spend on Sebastian as well. We have no idea who gave us this basket but we are extremely grateful! It was so nice of them and I wish we knew who it was so we could thank them personally.
We also received a toy, some links to hold stuff, another blanket, and some very cute clothes from my sister-in-law and our friends from Utah. The clothes are absolutely adorable because one of them has firetrucks all over it and one is a fire uniform in onesie form. I can’t wait for him to get here so we can dress him up and use everything that we’ve gotten.
I can’t believe that this is the end of the second trimester! From all the horror stories I’ve heard I’m a little scared for this last trimester to start. I know it’s not going to get any better and that scares me…but I say, ‘Bring it on!’ At least I will have several distractions over the next few months while we start getting more stuff for the baby and I will be working on fire stuff for this summer.
